Kindred Knits: Patterns from My Estonian Family Archives by Aleks Byrd is a heartfelt collection of knitwear inspired by her Estonian grandmother Hilja’s old sketchbooks and treasured family craft traditions.

The book features 15 knitting patterns, including socks, hats, sweaters, and cardigans. Each design blends a variety of techniques such as lace, cables, colourwork, and Roosimine the traditional Estonian inlay method. The result is a thoughtful mix of modern, wearable knits deeply rooted in heritage and tradition.

Aleks Byrd is an illustrator and knitwear designer with Estonian, Canadian, and American roots, widely known for bringing Estonian techniques like Roosimine and Vikkel to a global audience. Kindred Knits is her second book, following her debut Traditions Revisited, published by Laine Publishing in 2022.
